You are waiting for something right now. Dinner? An apology? A call from a loved one? Treatment to start working? All four of these things?
We are always waiting both for trivial things and for the stuff that makes life meaningful.
This is hard. Waiting can be lonely, worrying, and exhausting. We don’t like it. Especially when our waiting is about life-altering decisions or news. Especially when we don’t know how long we’ll have to wait.
All the uncertainty can be unsettling, and makes us feel powerless. Like we have to just be passive and struggle until something happens or something changes. Like we might lose self-control and hope if we start to lose our patience.
But there are some things we don’t have to wait to do, no matter what our circumstances tell us.
We don’t have to wait to…
- Talk to God, about anything
- Say I’m sorry to God, who is always ready to forgive
- See if God loves us, Jesus has proven this already
- Figure out how to be close to God, because He has told us
- Know how our story, and the world’s story, ends
These are options right now. And they mean that whatever else we are waiting on today, we don’t have to wait alone or wonder if we’re foolish to hope.
If you’re not sure how this can be, here’s the spoiler…
Your sin is real, and it’s killing you. But God wants you to live forever, He wants you to go to heaven when you die. So He sent Jesus to pay for your sin with His own life. Jesus did. Then He rose from the grave, proving that sin and death have no power over Him. He uses His power to give you life forever, and to be with you always, when you simply accept His free gift of rescue by believing Him and trusting Him to save you from sin.
Ephesians Chapter 2, verses 1-10 from the Bible is a great place to start reading more about this.
So…what are you waiting for?
We are fortunate that God is more patient than we are.
