The Opportunity You Can’t See Yet

Opportunity may not be visible, but it is still there.

You look around and nothing seems promising. The only way ahead, it would seem, is to keep trudging along. It feels wrong and it sounds hopeless. No opportunities have come up and you’re running out of ones to dream of.

Hang in there. Nothing is impossible with God.

That means that when there is no way, He makes one.

Have you ever been in a life-size maze? It’s a little terrifying. Every turn you make could be a dead end. Each decision could have you traveling for a long time, lost and without direction. If the maze has multiple exits, you don’t even have a way of knowing which one will be your end.

If that’s a metaphor for life, God is the one in the watch tower. He is the coach who can see the to the destination that is the best. One you can hardly believe exists.

Imagine that. It’s difficult, right?

When we hear phrases like these, they often seem nebulous:

•  Trust in God
•  Have faith
•  Follow Christ
•  Wait on Him

The God behind these statements isn’t so obscure.

Even if you can't see any opportunities, God can and He can make a way.

When we trust in Him, we’re trusting in Him who knows all things. Our faith is in the same Jesus who we know as a personal savior and friend. Like any good friend, He wants to help you navigate the course. The difference is that He can do so perfectly.

As you follow Christ, remember that He ensures your righteous end. More than just your end, however, He was there from the beginning. The God who made the seasons and is absolutely sovereign is the one walking you through this season.

He is the giver of all good things. For the very breath you draw and your most reassured memories and relationships, you have God to thank. Each and every surprise is known and planned by that God.

The light and the way –the two things we look for when we are lost and can see no opportunity ahead- these are Christ. The Christ who sent a helper in the Holy Spirit to be with us. The same God we call to and rely on.

Believe Him as He says: “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” John 8:12

You may not be able to see much in life right now, or much at all in anything. But you don’t need the whole picture or a map of the shifting maze. You have the maker of it all directing your way –as He makes it!

One day, that incredible opportunity that you couldn’t see will be what you are living through because He saw it and He knew how to get you there safe.

  1. So grateful for His light. Even when I seem to be walking with one hand over my eyes like a little child. His light is there for me and He guides me every step. Thanks for your encouraging words friend!

  2. I love the illustration that while we are running around lost in the maze, God is up in the watchtower seeing the whole thing and that if we trust him and listen to him he will guide us to where we need to be. That’s so encouraging to remember!

  3. This is difficult, but so true! “But you don’t need the whole picture or a map of the shifting maze.” I like to understand thoroughly, but God wants me to trust more than understand.

  4. I don’t think God gives the whole picture many times at all. He might give us a glimpse of the end, but then obscures the steps in between, or give us only the steps while the destination is a mystery, then there are times when he gives the ending and the steps, but doesn’t tell us about the detours. And all that is because He’s way more interested in relationship than He is in giving us a bunch of information. And if we don’t know everything we want to know… what do we have to do? Seek Him! Relationship!
