Nothing Better To Do

I wonder if the disciples were more surprised when they discovered the empty grave or when Jesus’ nail-pierced hands prepared them breakfast.

I’m a little startled every time I read about Jesus’ life on earth after the resurrection.

He’d just proven that nothing – not even death – had authority over Him. He was the God-man, come to save and redeem, just as God said. He was the Messiah! And He….

Ate with the disciples.

Reassured them and gave them peace.

Let a doubting friend put fingers in his wounds.

Explained God’s Word.

Made breakfast.

Forgave, conversed, called, taught.

Jesus lived after it was finished on the cross much like He did before He defeated the power of sin and death – in fellowship with His people.

Sometimes I forget, and maybe you do too, that Jesus’ priority is relationship.

It sounds too simple, but it’s true.

Jesus had nothing better to do with his days on earth after the resurrection than be with His people. And that’s what He’s going to do for all of eternity too!
