“I have good news,” I mumbled to my husband through a sore throat and congestion.
“Give me good news,” was what he heard.
It was a random Monday afternoon. We laughed. And then we thought about it.
Is asking a fellow believer to give you good news such a strange request?
We are to…
- Always be ready to give an answer for our hope (1 Peter 3:15)
- Encourage one another daily (Hebrews 3:13)
- Be filled with the Spirit, speaking and making music from the heart to the Lord, giving thanks (Ephesians 5:18-19)
- Rejoice in the Lord always (Philippians 4:4)
These calls to fill our conversation with joy and hope don’t mean we only speak about positive things. God’s own word doesn’t sugarcoat suffering. But we do need regular reminding of the good news of Jesus in a world full of bad news.
At any given moment, we can look another Christian in the eye and say…
Good news! God loves you so much that He sent Jesus for you.
Good news! God wants to hear from you about everything, all the time.
Good news! The Holy Spirit dwells in you.
Good news! Jesus calls you chosen, holy, and beloved.
Good news! You are going to be delivered safely into God’s kingdom.
Good news! When you draw near to God, He draws near to you.
Good news! Jesus is coming back again.
Good news! God is with you always.
Good news! His purpose and plans will not be thwarted.
Good news! You can count on God; He does not change.
Praise the Lord that whatever hard things we face, the good news is good news forever and for today.
What bit of good news would you add to this list?
