First and Second: Perspective On What Matters Most (Matthew 22:36-40)

Awe-Worthy

There is nothing practical about watching a sunset. And yet, we are often captivated by them.

The experience of pausing to watch the sky slowly, vividly change colors brings joy and wonder…the sort that deepens our appreciation of life.

I love that we can deepen our appreciation of Jesus likewise when we “fix our eyes on Jesus,” and “set our minds on things above” (Hebrews 12:2, Colossians 3:2). Our joy and wonder are cultivated when we pause to observe, ponder, and focus on Him and His Word.

That’s what my new Bible workbook, Awe-Worthy, is designed for.

Short insights into Bible passages are combined with out-of-the-box questions and simple hands-on activities to get us out of our heads as we spend time dwelling on Jesus. The 6-session workbook helps us look at Jesus (really look at Jesus) with the same posture we have when we gaze at a sunset.

This atypical Bible study format came to be a few years ago.

It started with a conversation about wishing Bible studies were friendlier to active learning styles. That got me journaling, daydreaming, and playing around. Just me and the Lord. I’m an intuitive, hands-on learner, so I loved the combination of interactivity and Bible study. I especially loved the way God was expanding my wonder at His glory.

I couldn’t keep it to myself. I was curious if the activities might bring others the joy of thinking what I kept thinking: “I’ve never really thought about this that way! Wow, Jesus is amazing!!”

So, full of nerves, I invited a couple of friends to try it out for themselves, workbook style. I also invited some friends to walk through it with me, workshop style. (We wrapped up COVID-style.)

My wonderful Matt formatted the workbook, helped me refine the ideas, and made each of my kind “guinea pigs” a thank-you gift. Each friend fed back and helped me refine it further. And then…it sat.

God brought other writing projects up. Still, I came back to this one over and over, editing and tweaking from time to time. In 2025, I was invited to teach with Online Women’s Bible Studies. Awe-Worthy immediately came to mind.

Full of nerves again, I forced myself to get used to being on camera and filmed each Awe-Worthy session. Re-experiencing the joy of walking through it, I asked the Lord if there was any other way this workbook might serve others. He nudged me to ask a friend to create a cover (thanks, Abby!) That’s how we got here.

Awe-Worthy is available on Amazon Kindle and as a paperback now.

If you’d like to watch videos for each session, they are offered through Online Women’s Bible Study, alongside Bible studies by loads of excellent teachers.

Give me a shout if you try Awe-Worthy out! I’d love to hear what you thought and how the Lord sparked wonder as you worshiped Him.
